Nestled among towering oak stands, winding waterways and coastal marshes, is one of the premiere Savannah private communities called WaterWays Township. The master-planned community spans 2,300 acres and is separated from the rest of the area by a gate. The southern-style Savannah homes for sale are only about 25 minutes south of the historic downtown of Savannah. The community itself is located in Richmond Hill, making it part of the Richmond Hill real estate market.
WaterWays Township boasts marsh frontage of over six miles, giving residents casual coastal living with a variety of resort-style amenities and recreational activities. Both water activities and land activities are available. Besides the marsh frontage, there are also numerous tidal creeks and lagoons dotting the community land. These waterways offer plentiful opportunities for kayaking, fishing and canoeing. Nearby backcountry trails give cyclists and hikers the chance to explore, while an angler partner might be testing their skills in the stocked waters.
Aside from these nature activities, there are also many opportunities to take part in sports and fitness. WaterWays Township is planning a Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course that includes practice facilities. A marina that gives Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean access is on site. A fitness club includes a workout center, swimming pool and tennis facilities. The clubhouse offers fine dining as well.
Savannah homes for sale in this Richmond Hill real estate market are located across 2,300 acres. Like many high-end Savannah private communities, WaterWays Township is centered around their golf club. Here, the club and course is designed by Tom Fazio and is an 18-hole, par 72 championship course. It has a practice facility and an area dedicated to short games. There are also many public and private courses nearby.
Being a coastal community, it’s no surprise that it includes a marina. Residents can access the Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal Waterway, Great Ogchee River, as well as the barrier islands through the RedBird Waterway. Further planned facilities will include fueling, a ship store, dry slip storage and a launch area. Other water activities are available throughout the community. Over five miles of lagoon systems are perfect for canoes, kayaks and anglers on the shore. The lagoons are professionally stocked with over a quarter million of forage fish species, as well as bream, shiners and largemouth bass. The Bill Dance Signature Fishing Experience provides the championship level fishing in the community.
Residents who love to get out into nature will find a number of backcountry trails to explore via bike or on foot. Besides being great exercise, these trails are a prime area for wildlife observation as well. Not all Savannah private communities put the same effort into land conservation as WaterWays. Over 400 acres in the community are set aside to exist in their natural state. These 400 acres include native woodlands, islands, nature trails, tidal creeks and even bamboo forests.
The WaterClub West Pool House takes the water activities into man-made territory. It has a saltwater swimming pool, a deck area with trellis and a pavilion with a screen, outdoor kitchen and fireplace. The main fitness club also has a pool for both adults and families with children. There’s a poolside grill and bar area and a beach down by the lagoon shore. The fitness area includes a general workout area as well as a tennis complex. Within the club is access to fine dining.
WaterWays Township is located in Richmond Hill, the main town in southern Bryan County. It is 31 miles south of Savannah. Plenty of services are located nearby, including medical centers and acute care hospitals. It is also close to the local schools. A 2,000 acre wildlife conservation owned by the state is adjacent to the community.
This Richmond Hill real estate area is growing, but there’s no timeline to build on the lots available in this community. Lot size ranges from about a quarter acre to over an acre. The price range starts around $60,000 and goes up to $179,900. Savannah homes for sale in the community start at $250,000 and range up to $500,000.
